2005-present              Member of American Society of Professional Estimators (ASPE).

9/07-9/09                     Interim President. Richmond Chapter-in-Development, ASPE.  Responsible for facilitating monthly meetings/programs, preparing meeting agendas, coordinating programs and presentations, preparing and disseminating monthly meeting and program announcements, and conducting board meetings and other events.  Monthly luncheon meetings were held at the Richmond builders exchange until recently, when we moved to a meeting room at the Holiday Inn.  Meetings included a half-hour “eat & greet,” followed by a half-hour presentation on a topic of benefit to estimators.  Programs included CSI’s MasterFormat, various estimating software, LEED, etc.

September 2007         Presentation of OST at ASPE monthly meeting.    Gave a 30-minute demonstration of On Screen take-off, using as a case study my recent drywall/framing bid for a client on the New York Jets’ new 250,000 SF training center (my client came in 2nd).

October 2007              Facilitator of Round-Table Discussion at ASPE monthly meeting.    “Subcontractor bidding protocols--Do’s and Don’ts.”

May 2008                    Presentation on UL assemblies at ASPE monthly meeting.    Gave a 30-minute presentation on estimating UL assemblies—“Pitfalls & Opportunities,” with slides and hand-outs that I prepared.  Topic focused on my area of expertise, but presentation included discussion of applicability to other trades, as well as an overview of how the UL Fire Resistance Directory is organized and of its numbering system.

September 2008         Presentation at ASPE monthly meeting on ASPE’s educational and certification programs.    Gave a 30-minute presentation on the continuing education programs and certifications available to estimators at all levels, with slides and handouts, and demonstrating on a projector how to navigate the www.aspenational.org website to find these educational programs.

October 2008              Worked with AGC of Virginia to present a joint, one-day estimating academy for members of both organizations.  Academy included four 2-hour presentations by experts in their topics.  Event had approximately 25 attendees from both organizations and after splitting costs and proceeds with AGC, we raised around $2,500.00 for our developing chapter.   Event was held in a classroom at AGC state headquarters and I acted as host, introducing speakers, holding a raffle, coordinating lunch and handing out certificates at end.  I was one of the presenters as well (see below).

October 2008             Conducted 2-hour class on OST at joint AGC/ASPE Estimating 1-day Academy.    Gave a 2-hour class, including hands-on training on estimating electronic plans with On Screen take-off, using dual computer set-ups with an assistant for the hands-on segment (so that all of the approximately 25 participants could have a turn).
